Harry Potter Misfit Fics

Hello everyone. I know it's been quite some time since I've last made a post here, but this is your friendly neighborhood moderator, star54kar.

As some of you may or may not have noticed, over the course of the past few months this community has frequently come under the attack of Spammers posting links to various advertisements. While I have been faithfully banning the poster and deleting and reporting each occurrence as spam to Livejournal as soon as I became aware of each inappropriate post, I have found that over the past few weeks this is doing nothing to dissuade those responsible from setting up new accounts and posting the exact same thing all over again.

Because the frequency of these spam attacks appear to be getting consistently worse, despite my prompt action in each occurrence, I have made the decision to put this community on moderated membership status in an attempt to protect the community from these repeated attacks.

This action has been taken in the hope of making our community less attractive to those responsible for the spam attacks, with as little inconvenience to our posting members as possible. It is my hope that this will not have to be a permanent change, but I'm going to try this for a while and see how things go.

If any of you have any questions about this change please feel free to ask away. I'll be happy to answer them and I promise to make you aware of any further changes if they occur.

I have decided to extend our Colin Creevey challenge into the month of June.

Hey everyone!

I want to thank everyone who has already voted in yesterday's poll regarding the start of a new monthly challenge and a monthly digest here at hp_misfitfics. Your opinion is very important to me, so if you have yet to cast your vote, please take a moment to do so.

I'm also very happy to announce that I have finally created new promotional banners for our community. This is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time, and I finally feel like there are enough banners to accurately represent the wide variety of interests we have here at hp_misfitfics. I feel very confident that you should be able to find at least one to suit your personal tastes.

Please feel free to snag as many as you would like to post on your profile page or at your journal. Lets make sure that the wide variety of gen fic out there knows for sure that it can find a home here among our readers here at hp_misfitfics!

Welcome new members!!!!

I am so beyond excited! hp_misfitfics appears to actually be taking off!!!

In just one week of operation we now have twenty members and twenty-four watchers! There have been ten stories posted and seven of them were posted by authors other than myself! I can't tell you how happy that has made me, and I encourage you all to keep it up:)


In terms of community promotion things seem to be going very well thus far. I have posted an announcement of Misfits opening on hp_directory, and we were graciously mentioned on yesterday's newsletter at hogwarts_today. Do any of our wonderful new members know of any other newsletter communities I can get the word out to?

I also have to give huge hugs and thank yous to earth_dragon, knic26, and oncelikeshari for the wonderful pimps!

Also an extra special thank you goes to hedwigs_bane who not only pimped the community on his own journal, but also on hrroundrobin, and bestmeatsawards!


In terms of organization, I'm striving to make searching for fics on hp_misfitfics as easy as possible. The memory feature will be used as an author directory so that you can find all the stories submitted to the site by a specific author. The tags are currently organized by genre and rating, and I have been considering also organizing it by characters.


I welcome and encourage you to submit any ideas you might have to make the community better in the comments. Thank you, all of you for joining, watching, and supporting this little idea of mine. You have made me extremely happy:)
