Lovely fic, and such an interesting idea. Because, though we don't see everything, I don't think Hermione and Ron exactly got what Harry's life was like, through any actual part of the books, how desperate he was too leave. It was different for me too, looking at Harry with the Dursley's on a deeper level. I think somehow in the back of my mind, I had just assumed the 'cruelty' was more as an older child - not a little baby, though it must have been. Not that it makes it any better, but thinking about a pure little innocent crying baby who has nobody...

(a side note to it, but it brings me back to the MADD commercial that is simply watching a baby named Emily cry for the duration of it all alone. With nobody coming to comfort her because her parents were killed by a drunk driver - as you learn at the end. Considering how much it gets to me, a freaking commercial - I can't imagine nobody going to comfort, to love, and I have little maternal instinct).
But too, I have to praise your characterization and such here - ie. Ron's very IC little slip of the tongue irking Hermione, and her looking to books for the answers. Again, lovely fic.
